The New York City premiere of Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City earlier this week gave stars an opportunity to dole out some fresh red-carpet looks. Think Margot Robbie in a sculpted Schiaparelli minidress, Maya Hawke in a glittering Prada creation, and our favourite – Scarlett Johansson leaning into the corsage trend in an incredible cream Carolina Herrera gown complete with a giant flower on the bust.
It featured a body-hugging ruched bodice held up by thin halter straps, which extended into an extreme drop waist before flaring out into a gathered ankle-length skirt.
The statement 3D appliqué reflected the comeback of corsages on the runways (Prada, Roksanda, Loewe...) and the high street as a fresh take on summery florals.
The key to nailing this trend is to make the corsage the star player of your outfit's silhouette and keep the rest of the look simple – just as Scarlett has done here.
If you fancy adding a corsage piece to your wardrobe, here are a few of our favourites:
For footwear, Johansson opted for glittering steel-tip pumps. She accessorised further with pearl and diamond drop earrings and an array of gold and gemstone rings.
Johansson had previously pulled out all the stops for her red carpet look at the global premiere of Asteroid City at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.
She arrived on the famed carpeted steps wearing a pale pink sheath gown, custom-made by Prada. The minimalist dress offered an elegant nod to this season’s lingerie trend by featuring a sparkling white triangle bra peeking out over the bust.
Johansson accessorised simply, wearing only a few rings and and star-shaped dangle diamond earrings from David Yurman.
She then changed into a second Prada look for the after-party, wearing a yellow-green satin minidress with white heeled sandals and a metallic clutch.
